They are looking for a contract researcher for a 26 month project using GIS and remote sensing to map the distribution of High Nature Value Farmland in Ireland. The post is with Teagasc and is based in Dublin, Ireland. Some background:

The successful candidate will be part of a larger national project, Ideal-HNV (funded by the DAFM through the Research Stimulus Fund) with national partners and an international steering committee. The applicant will be based with the Department of Agribusiness and Spatial Analysis in the Teagasc Ashtown Research Centre in Dublin, Ireland.

High Nature Value farmland areas are associated with high levels of biodiversity and other public goods. This element of the project will develop a geo-spatial analysis to estimate the national extent and distribution of potential HNV farming systems (This is the principal task for the position being advertised). This methodology will use available geo-spatial data on vegetation type, farming systems, designated areas, farming intensity and land use/cover. We will also investigate an innovative remote sensing methodology that combines new high-resolution satellite imagery with other datasets and will apply this to a case study area (5000 km2) to assess its ability to more directly measure nature value of areas.
