Subject: Open position at AIUB
Dear Colleagues,
The Satellite geodesy research group of the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB) offers the position of a
*RESEARCH ASSISTANT*
The focus of the research activities will be in the field of
*GNSS DATA ANALYSIS*.
The AIUB hosts the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), one of the leading analy-sis centers of the International GNSS Service (IGS). An important part of the position will be devoted to the continuous improvement of the processing system, which is required to guaran-tee the operational activities with high reliability. The permanent development and improvement of the Bernese GNSS Software package, to also guarantee the high quality standards of the CODE-products according to the latest scientific standards in the future, will be another core task of this position.
Based on these rather technical tasks, also various opportunities for scientific research result in order to continuously improve of the CODE products. A key element is the improvement of the orbit modelling for GNSS satellites (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) as well as for low Earth orbiting satellites.
Depending on the interest and the experience of the candidate also other research topics may be defined, covering the wide range from the field of global GNSS analysis (improvement of relevant parameters like station coordinates, Earth rotation parameters, etc.), to the integration of new GNSS signals, up to the development and employment of new processing strategies.
The position may also allow PhD studies in the field of orbit modelling for GNSS satellites. In that case the focus of the work will be rather on scientific tasks than on technical tasks.
The complete position description is available at http://www.bernese.unibe.ch/Stellen/Stellenausschreibung_20140225.pdf

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious engineering graduate to fast-track their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate in GNSS Algorithm Engineering. VERIPOS provides precise navigation and positioning solutions globally, through the innovative application of technology.
This KTP project with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Geospatial Institute, aims to further develop high accuracy satellite-based positioning for commercial applications. The position will involve assessment of GALILEO and BEIDOU capabilities, studies into observation quality and biases, observation models for multi-constellation and multi-frequency positioning, implementation and validation of algorithms in MATLAB, evaluation and implementation of multi-service constellation.
The successful candidate will be based at VERIPOS in Norwich but will spend the first three months at their Nottingham office (TERRASTAR Ltd). You must be prepared to travel within the UK since you will also spend some time at the VERIPOS Aberdeen office as well as the Nottingham Geospatial Institute. Some overseas travel may also be required.
This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate to work in a real world commercial environment, with the benefit of access to academic research, supervision, support and advice. A comprehensive, tailored training and development package will help to meet the professional demands of the project and your personal aspirations.
Candidates for this post should have:
